A new American defense bill could grant Israel unprecedented access to US military technology and embed Israeli defense systems more deeply into critical US military supply chains.
The proposal, known as the US-Israel Security Technology Cooperation Initiative, appears as Section 224 of the House Armed Services Committee draft of the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. The bill is still in an early stage and must pass both chambers of Congress before becoming law.
Under the proposal, the US defense secretary would appoint an executive agent to coordinate defense technology cooperation between the US and Israel. This would include research, development, testing, industrial cooperation and technological integration.
Supporters say the move would expand cooperation in key fields such as artificial intelligence, cyber warfare, drones, missile defense and other emerging technologies. The US and Israel already cooperate closely on major missile defense systems, including Iron Dome, David’s Sling and Arrow.
