The Houthis continue to launch missiles, but they are impoverished and that is what they do.
The Houthi regime in Sanaa announced the introduction of a new note of approximately 200 Yemeni riyals into circulation. These are notes that were printed before the split of the central bank between Aden and Sanaa, but were not put into use in the past – and have now been cut up and distributed.
The internationally recognized Yemeni government, which is based in Aden, strongly opposes the move, claiming that these notes are counterfeit, harm the national economy and will fuel inflation.
Economists warn that the introduction of additional notes without real backing is expected to accelerate the erosion of the value of the riyal, exacerbate the crisis of confidence and make it even more difficult for citizens who already live in severe poverty.
