Neglect, poor management, and the economic crisis are killing Iranians. According to data from the Air Quality and Climate Change Research Center at Shahed University, in 2024, 7,342 people died in the Tehran metropolitan area due to long-term exposure to pollutant particles.
This represents an increase of about 1% compared to 2023.
According to the same study, the economic damage caused to Iran as a result of air pollution was estimated at about 23 billion dollars last year. Reports indicate that only six days of clean air were recorded in Tehran from the beginning of the year until August 6.
The main factors contributing to the phenomenon include burning diesel at power plants, low-quality gasoline for vehicles, and widespread use of old and polluting cars.
