Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu may meet again this week with U.S. President Trump, if developments justify it, according to a senior political source.
The official did not specify the exact conditions for such a meeting, but it appears the talks may concern either a potential agreement between Hamas and Israel or between Syria and Israel.
However, the source noted that there are still significant gaps in negotiations with both Hamas and Syria that require extensive work. A member of Netanyahu’s delegation in Washington said, “Hamas essentially said ‘no’ to the Qatari proposal. But the gaps are small. It may take more than a few days.”
The senior source detailed Israel’s vision for Gaza after the war ends. He said that implementing the goal of “toppling Hamas’s civil rule” means removing Hamas’s ability to distribute food to Gaza’s population.
Regarding the goal of “dismantling Hamas’s military capabilities,” which the Israeli cabinet set at the beginning of the war, the official said it means: “Hamas no longer exists. It has laid down its arms. Its members have surrendered. The organization’s leadership in Gaza is exiled, and a different force prevents weapons from being used in the Strip.”
He added that no decision has yet been made on who that force would be, but emphasized it would not be the Palestinian Authority.
The source also stated that Israel will no longer accept calls to establish a Palestinian state.
On the other hand, he did not rule out the possibility of a temporary Israeli military administration in Gaza. He also revealed that the details of Hamas leaders' exile have not yet been finalized.
