A senior commander in an Iranian-backed Shiite militia in Iraq was killed after an explosive device was attached to his vehicle in Maysan Province in southern Iraq.
The commander was identified as Adi Mohsen Jabbar al-Khalfi, also known as “Sheikh Taher” or “Sheikh Dhafer.” He was a senior field commander in Harakat Ansar Allah al-Awfiya, Brigade 19 of the Popular Mobilization Forces.
The militia operates as part of the so-called Islamic Resistance in Iraq, the umbrella network responsible for attacks against US forces in Iraq, Syria and Jordan, and for launching explosive drones and cruise missiles toward Israel since October 2023.
According to the report, al-Khalfi was involved in the military and logistical network that enabled the transfer of weapons from Iran through Iraq toward Syria and Lebanon, as well as attacks aimed at Eilat, Dimona and the Negev.
