NEWSRAEL: This is the second poll we are reporting on the mood of Americans towards Israel, Palestinians and the war. This one comes from Al-Monitor, a respected Saudi news outlet, so it has special meaning, and is telling Saudis that American support for Israel is UP and for Palestinians is DOWN.
Kobi Barda, one of the top Israeli experts in American issues brings his analysis:
An Al-Monitor survey, three weeks into the war, among the American public reveals the following data:
DIRECT AMERICAN INVOLVEMENT IN THE WAR
Americans do not want to see American military involvement by an overwhelming majority. Only 18% want to see such involvement compared to 40% who are opposed and another 42% who are not sure. That's what I call a stop sign.
This forces Biden to maneuver narrowly in the case of a direct attack on Israel without a direct and significant attack on American interests (as I recall, the Iranians and their proxies attack American bases in Syria and Iraq almost on a daily basis).
INCREASING AID FOR ISRAEL
Regarding the increase in support, there is a modest gap of 5 points in relation to the reduction of aid, while the rest of the public wants to
maintain the existing level.
IS ISRAEL DELIBERATELY TARGETING CIVILIANS
On the information front (Israeli vs Palestinian), a nice victory was recorded, with 42% not thinking that Israel is deliberately targeting civilians in Gaza, almost twice as many (22%) as those who think Israel is doing it on purpose, with 38% not yet forming an opinion on Israel's intentions to execute judgments on the civilian population.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WAR
In this context, 42% assume responsibility for Hamas, compared to a total of 5% who assume responsibility for Israel (the conspiracies of the racist right and radical left that Israel staged images of murder). 23% think that both (in the name of the holy balance) and 30% have not formulated a position regarding this.
WHO DO YOU SYMPATHIZE WITH IN THE WAR
Palestinian advocacy suffers a severe blow of a 24% drop in support following the outbreak of the war (pay attention Palestinians, not Hamas, this is a projection on the whole nation), with only 11% indicating an increase in sympathy, approximately 65% ??are in the same place as they were on the eve of the war in Gaza.
HOW IMPORTANT IS THE RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL
And we will end with the most encouraging question of the survey about the importance of Israel within the relationship between the countries and the Americans. A total of over 86% think that the relationship is important (52 %) or very important (34 %) , against 13.5% who think that the relationship is not important.
WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THE SURVEY?
A. The maneuvering area for the exercise of American military power
In the case of an attack on Israel is limited (assuming there is no catastrophic attack on Americans that could change a military course). Biden's ability in such numbers to provide firepower, in real time, will be limited without congressional approval, which reduces the political maneuverability to make such a move without a full approval pathway.
B. Israeli advocacy is working! Israel is getting its message that we are fighting for the West against Hamas-ISIS, and even that Hamas=Palestine is being understood by Americans.
From the pressures of the American public on the PA's involvement in the management of Gaza.
C. A question that has not been asked, but in my estimation will be asked, is what will happen the day after the war. I believe that the solution will be Saudi-Egyptian-Israeli to manage the Strip.
D. The American-Israel relations, not only did not erode (in light of the images of the huge demonstrations in the streets and on campuses)
It is on a significant rise, in light of the war.
