The new Syrian President, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, said last night that the Syrian security forces will continue to pursue the remnants of the former regime in order to bring them to justice, and stressed that these elements are trying to destabilize the country.
YONI BEN MENACHEM -- In various regions of Syria, including the country's coasts, clashes took place between Syrian security forces and remnants of Bashar Assad's former regime. The Syrian Defense Ministry spokesman, Hassan Abdel-Ghani, announced the achievement of full control over the cities of Tartus and Latakia.
Arab media reported massacres committed by Abu Muhammad al-Julani's men against Alawite fighters during the fighting, with at least 80 reported dead. Hundreds of Alawite families fled the Latakia region to other parts of Syria.
Videos have been circulated on social media in the Arab world showing Abu Muhammad al-Julani's men shooting unarmed prisoners to death, and other videos in which they humiliate the prisoners, brutally beating them, stepping on them, calling them "dogs" and forcing them to crawl on all fours and bark.
