Algeria is preparing a major combined sea-and-land initiative toward Gaza Strip, with organizers announcing plans to dispatch a maritime flotilla of up to 150 vessels in April, alongside a Maghreb-based land convoy heading for the Rafah Crossing.
Marwan Ben Qattaya, a member of the international committee of the “Steadfastness Flotilla” and a leader within the Maghreb arm of the initiative, said the organizers have received what he described as encouraging signals from Egypt regarding coordination for the land convoy.
Speaking to the pan-Arab outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Ben Qattaya said Egyptian authorities indicated readiness to coordinate the effort through the Egyptian Red Crescent.
According to the plan, the land convoy would depart from Algeria, pass through Tunisia and Libya, and continue toward Rafah. Organizers framed the initiative as a humanitarian effort aimed at delivering aid and easing the suffering of Gazans, while operating through what they claim are approved humanitarian channels.
