Saudi Al Arabiya says Israel’s recognition of Somaliland may open sea access for Ethiopia
Saudi network Al Arabiya reports that Israel’s recognition of Somaliland is paving the way for new regional understandings between Somaliland and Ethiopia, aimed at granting Addis Ababa access to the sea via the Port of Berbera.
According to the report, Ethiopia—currently landlocked and surrounded on all sides—has a growing strategic incentive to formalize ties with Somaliland.
Al Arabiya notes that the likelihood has increased that Ethiopia will recognize Somaliland in exchange for guaranteed access to the Berbera port, a move that would dramatically reshape trade routes and political alignments in the Horn of Africa.
