YONI BEN MENACHEM -- US Vice President J.D. Vance will arrive in Israel today for a short visit – his first since being appointed to the position.
Senior political sources in Jerusalem say that Vance’s visit is indicative of the US administration’s increasing involvement in foreign affairs and the administration’s determination to promote the implementation of President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan.
Vance is not expected to visit the Gaza Strip. Upon landing, he is scheduled to visit the US headquarters, where about 200 soldiers are stationed and are responsible for overseeing the implementation of Trump’s peace plan, and will later travel to Jerusalem and meet with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who arrived in Israel yesterday.
Tomorrow, Vance will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a one-on-one meeting. During the visit, he is also expected to meet the families of the hostages, and in the afternoon, he will fly back to the US.
