A senior official at the US CDC ("Centers for Disease Control and Prevention") has ordered health system employees to stop working with the UN health organization - the World Health Organization (WHO). This is according to a memo sent to senior agency officials this week.
According to the directive, all agency staff working with the WHO must stop doing so immediately and await further instructions.
CDC employees are also prohibited from visiting WHO offices.
US President Trump signed a presidential order last week to begin the process of the US withdrawing from the organization.
To actually withdraw from the organization, congressional approval is required and the US must give one year's notice.
