Lebanese politician Charles Jabour says UNIFIL has enabled Hezbollah’s military buildup and that Israel would have withdrawn if Lebanon had fulfilled its obligation to disarm the terror group.
Lebanese politician Charles Jabour said in a February 10, 2026 appearance on Suroyo TV Lebanon that Israel is not targeting the Lebanese people, but Hezbollah, which he noted is considered a terrorist organization by Israel and an illegal armed group under Lebanese commitments.
Jabour accused UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon of being “co-conspirators” with Hezbollah, arguing that it is impossible they were unaware of the group’s extensive military infrastructure and tunnel networks built over the years. He said the international force failed to enforce UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for the disarmament of armed groups south of the Litani River and the extension of full Lebanese state authority in the area.
According to Jabour, Israel drew lessons from what he described as its mistakes in 2006 and is now insisting on full implementation of the October 27 resolution framework before completing any further withdrawal steps. He added that those questioning why Israel has not yet fully withdrawn are “liars or hypocrites,” arguing that if Lebanon had met its commitments to disarm Hezbollah, Israel would already have withdrawn.
