Qatar has reportedly informed regional parties that its role in implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement has ended, following the collapse of negotiations between Hamas and the so-called “Peace Council.” Responsibility for mediation efforts is now being transferred back exclusively to Egypt.
According to reports from Cairo, discussions between Hamas representatives and special envoy Nickolay Mladenov deteriorated into sharp exchanges and mutual accusations, particularly over the issue of Hamas disarmament.
The growing tensions during the talks have significantly increased concerns that fighting in Gaza could resume if diplomatic efforts continue to fail.
Qatar had spent years positioning itself as a central regional mediator while simultaneously maintaining close ties with Hamas leadership. However, mounting international scrutiny and increasing pressure from Washington appear to be narrowing Doha’s room to maneuver.
