A major shakeup is reportedly underway at the top of Iran’s regime, with Mojtaba Khamenei moving to replace judiciary chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei after five years in the role.

The move would break a decades-long pattern in which Iranian judiciary chiefs traditionally served two five-year terms. According to the report, the decision is not about legal reform, but part of a broader power consolidation effort by Mojtaba, who is working to place personally loyal figures in key institutions.

Ejei has faced criticism from hardline circles, including claims that his support for the memorandum with the US contradicted Mojtaba’s position. Even a letter in which Ejei reportedly pledged full obedience did not appear to stop the attacks against him.
