Two days ago, the Nziv.net website revealed for the first time the deployment of Syrian security forces along the Golan border.
This deployment reportedly followed negotiations — not necessarily indirect — between senior Israeli officials and representatives of President Julani’s new regime in Syria.
Previously, Israel had prohibited the Syrian regime from bringing armed forces into the area south of Damascus, including the provinces of Quneitra, Daraa, and Sweida.
Israel had also pushed forces into Syrian territory to counter any threat from the east. However, it became clear that the security of civilians was deteriorating, and IDF patrols in the area could not sufficiently protect them. In coordination with the U.S., Israel decided to allow only the regime’s internal security forces to deploy along the border and restore stability in southern Syria.
