To honor Righteous Among the Nations, Chiune Sugihara, the Jerusalem Municipality dedicated a square in the city's Kiryat Yovel neighborhood in his memory.
Sugihara was a Japanese diplomat serving in Lithuania during the Nazi invasion of the country. Sugihara issued visas to over 2,000 Jews, saving their lives.
Thanks to his bravery, some 40,000 descendants of those he saved are alive today.
