Tensions between Israel and the Houthis in Yemen are at their peak after the Houthis made it clear that they would attack Israeli ships crossing the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Since the start of the war on October 7, the Houthis have fired over 200 missiles and 170 drones at Israel, but these attacks have caused minimal, if any, damage.
The Houthis' more significant impact has been on international trade, as the attacks have led to the diversion of shipping routes from the Suez Canal via the Cape of Good Hope in Africa.
The diversion of the shipping route has been accompanied by a temporary decline in imports from Asia to the European Union. Globally, there was also a 10% decline in trade value and an increase in maritime transport prices.
