A raid in the middle of the sea
Taking over a hostile ship, sometimes hundreds of kilometers from Israel's territory, is one of the unique capabilities of the 13th Fleet. The naval commando fighters will be called upon to carry out this type of raid for the purpose of rescuing hostages or thwarting terrorist activity - such as the takeover of the gunships "Karin A" and "Kloss C" which carried weapons smuggled from Iran and intended to reach the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip.
Boots on the ground
In addition to the unique actions of the 13th Fleet in the maritime space, it also takes part in counter-terrorism activities on land. In recent months, the unit participated as part of a groundbreaking operation in raids and arrests against Palestinian terrorist targets and wanted in the Judea and Samaria territories. At the end of the training course, the fighters are divided into teams, each of which specializes in one of the three professions of the commando fighter: diver, sailor or raider. The divers engage in guerilla warfare and underwater commando warfare and know how to reach any port in a clandestine manner, through the ability to stay a considerable number of hours in the depths of the sea. The raiding teams include small tactical forces, which are equipped with combat equipment adapted to the transition from the sea to the land. The unit's motto is "like a bat that emerges suddenly, like a blade that dismembers in silence, like a grenade that shatters with thunder", and inspired by it, the fighters work in a busy training routine that requires physical and mental endurance. Fighters of the 13th Fleet participate in many international exercises, including with the equivalent unit in the United States Army, the "Sea Lions".
