The Marines' vision of the future: Personal unmanned aerial vehicles will change the face of the battlefield: Every warrior will be equipped with a personal attack drone
The U.S. Marine Corps aims to make every soldier an independent firepower by equipping them with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or personal drones. According to the vision, every soldier will be able to operate this deadly aircraft, and hit targets at ranges of a few meters to kilometers.
General Benjamin Watson, commander of the Marine Corps' Training and Education Command, presented the planned changes at a military conference. According to a report by WAR ZONE, General Watson noted that the lone soldier will be able to "kill the right person at ranges of up to 500 meters," and that with advances in technology, the range of operation will increase to 15 to 20 kilometers.
Marines are already using drone teams today, after a period of cooperation between combat units and the Corps' research laboratories. The teams are using personal attack drones (FPVs), as recently seen at Quantico Air Force Base in Virginia.
