According to Nziv, the system is meant to answer one of the biggest challenges facing modern air defense: simultaneous attacks by multiple drones. Instead of keeping one continuous laser beam focused on a single target, DroneLight fires fast, powerful laser pulses that can disable drones in rapid succession. The company says the system can neutralize more than 30 drones per minute. 

The system is reportedly in advanced testing and demonstrations in Israel and abroad, and was recently shown mounted on an armored vehicle at the Eurosatory defense exhibition. Nziv reports that the system operates with relatively low energy consumption of about 4 kilowatts, has an effective short-range envelope of up to one kilometer, and is designed to offer a much cheaper interception option against mass drone threats. 

The development highlights Israel’s growing focus on counter-drone warfare, especially as Iran and its proxies increasingly rely on UAVs, loitering munitions and swarm tactics against Israel and its allies.
