A senior commander of Hamas, Abu Hanoud was the mastermind behind Hamas' suicide attacks, and was personally responsible for most of the suicide bombings in the late 1990s and early 2000s – including the Sbarro and Dolphinarium bombings in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

IDF jets eliminated Abu Hanoud, along with his deputy and another Hamas terrorist, with precision missiles while driving in his car near Schem (Nablus).
