Israel's Institute for National Security Studies, which is affiliated with Tel Aviv University, believes that Assad's army no longer poses a threat to Israel, reports a Syrian news website.
In a recent study, the institute confirmed that Assad's military doctrine has changed from an ideological army that protects the borders and is designed to confront Israel to a mere tool in the hands of the regime to establish its rule in the country and suppress civil protests.
The study indicated that the military is a mirror image of the Assad regime as a whole, that its forces and rule have been undermined, and it has become completely dependent on Russia and Iran.
The study also shows that Russia had a greater influence than Iran in the process of rebuilding the regime's military force, operating it at the strategic and operational levels.
Iran is also working to gain influence in the military-building process by deploying and strengthening its offensive capabilities in Syria, including surface-to-surface missiles and drones through its militias participating in battles alongside Assad's forces.
The institute concluded its study by recommending that Israel beware of the chemical capabilities of the Assad regime to renew its arsenal with the help of Iran and exert political pressure on Russia to prevent the supply of advanced surface-to-air missile batteries to the regime.
