Former Hamas captive Ilana Gritzewsky challenged UN Special Rapporteur Reem Alsalem over her dismissal of evidence of Hamas sexual violence on October 7.
Former Hamas captive Ilana Gritzewsky confronted Reem Alsalem at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, accusing the UN official of ignoring the crimes committed by Hamas against Israeli women during the October 7 massacre and in captivity.
Gritzewsky, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz and held in Gaza, told the council that survivors like her are living proof of Hamas sexual violence.
Alsalem, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, has been criticized by Israeli and Jewish groups for minimizing or dismissing evidence of Hamas sexual crimes. UN Watch said it brought Gritzewsky to the UN floor to confront Alsalem directly after Alsalem described allegations of Hamas sexual violence as “misinformation.”
