A growing backlash is emerging in Lebanon over reports that senior Hezbollah figures are trying to hide in Beirut neighborhoods that are not Shiite in order to avoid Israeli targeted killings.
The move is drawing fierce criticism from public figures who warn that Hezbollah is deliberately shifting the danger onto civilians living outside its traditional strongholds.
Among those speaking out are Elissa, one of the Arab world’s best-known Lebanese singers, along with Lebanese lawmakers and journalists. Their message is clear: they fear Hezbollah is endangering the safety of residents in these areas and effectively turning local populations into human shields for its operatives.
