In a November 17 appearance on Al-Jazeera (Qatar), senior Hamas figure Osama Hamdan dismissed reports that his organization had ever agreed to disarm.
He said disarmament was never discussed in Sharm El-Sheikh or in any previous round of talks, and insisted that Hamas only agreed to a ceasefire, opening of border crossings, and a prisoner exchange.
Hamdan added that UN Security Council Resolution 2803 — authorizing President Trump’s post-war plan for Gaza, including a potential international force — would set a “disastrous precedent,” warning that Gazans and the “resistance” would “make their position clear” if such a force is imposed.
NEWSRAEL: WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
Hamdan’s remarks make clear that Hamas has no intention of giving up its weapons — even after a devastating war — and is openly threatening confrontation with any international stabilization force. This exposes the core problem: Hamas seeks to keep its military capabilities intact, undermining global efforts to secure Gaza and stabilize the region. It also strengthens Israel’s position that Hamas cannot be trusted to demilitarize voluntarily.
