The Dutch government has collapsed after Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), withdrew from the ruling coalition, citing dissatisfaction with immigration policies and insufficient support for Israel.
Wilders, whose PVV secured the most seats in the 2023 elections, demanded the adoption of a stringent 10-point immigration plan, including military border enforcement and the deportation of Syrian refugees. He also criticized the government's foreign policy, accusing it of being weak in defending Israel amid ongoing global tensions.
When coalition partners—VVD, NSC, and BBB—rejected his proposals, Wilders announced his party's departure, stating, “No signature for our asylum plans. The PVV leaves the coalition.”
The PVV’s exit leaves the government without a majority, likely forcing new elections. The collapse comes just weeks ahead of a scheduled NATO summit in The Hague, intensifying political uncertainty.
