According to Portnoy, โIsrael is experiencing cyber-attacks like in other parts of the world, but in addition to all of these, we also have Iran leading an organized, orchestrated and aggressive attack on Israeli cyber space.โ
Jerusalem, 31 January, 2023 (TPS) -- Gabi Portnoy, Director of Israel’s National Cyber System, while speaking at the Cybertech Global 2023 conference in Tel Aviv Tuesday revealed that Israel’s national cyber system helped in the past year to prevent and stop more than a thousand significant attempts at cyber-attacks that he said could have caused serious damage to the country’s economy had they not been stopped in time.
This figure, he said, refers to the more serious attempts handled by the array, and is added to thousands of other attempts of varying degrees of severity observed in the Israeli cyberspace.
He added that “our defense is as strong as ever. We see how they work, many times without success in causing real damage.”
According to Portnoy, “Similar to the world of combating terrorism and thwarting espionage, the general public is most of the time unaware of the attacks that have been stopped. Our job is to prevent those attacks a year that, if they were successful, would result in millions of damage to the economy and the country. Our efforts often happen behind the scenes.”
