Early in the morning, to the sound of mortar and grenade fire, hundreds of security patrol fighters and commanders at the Ashdod base were suddenly mobilized.
Worried? No need – it was a surprise drill by the 916th Squadron that took place at the beginning of last week.
Over two days, the crews were confronted with hostile vessels, live fire, and simulated casualties. The exercise commander explained the purpose behind the scenarios and the backstage planning of the “surprise.”
Last week at 6:00 a.m., all security patrol forces at the Ashdod base were called up as explosions, impacts and a simulated “fire” broke out on one of the ships. Soldiers woke up abruptly and immediately began handling the unfolding chain of events, evacuating from the port and boarding their naval craft as fast as possible.
