"The data science and AI tools we use significantly increase our ability to thwart terrorist attacks," says Colonel Yoav, commander of the Artificial Intelligence Center, 8200, at the AI Week conference at Tel Aviv University.

"One of the significant tools we built and operate today is a system that knows how to find 'dangerous' people based on input from a list of people who have been incriminated and entered into the system. The system does this process in seconds, which in the past would have taken hundreds of researchers several weeks to do."

The colonel revealed for the first time that "in Operation 'Guardian of the Walls' we were able to use the system to identify commanders of Hamas missile squads, and anti-tank operatives in the terrorist militia in Gaza in order to kill them. With the unique human-machine combination of unit 8200, the machine was able to find the terrorists from among a huge pool of people and transfer the information generated by the artificial intelligence to the investigators of the Intelligence Division."

At the conference, he also revealed that in Operation Wall Guardian, the IDF Intelligence Division managed to produce 200 new targets for attack during the operation using the artificial intelligence tools developed in 8200. In addition, the unit managed to update and upgrade their AI tools about 150 times During the operation - and this is how the IDF's capabilities were upgraded during the operation.

The system developed in 8200 joins a series of systems as part of the artificial intelligence revolution - among them "Good News" and "The Alchemist" - which have improved the IDF's ability to incriminate targets, and identify terrorist operatives and thus thwart their activities.
