A senior Israeli security source says Qatar positioned itself as a central mediator linking Iran, the US and Europe through calculated financial and diplomatic leverage.
In recent years, Qatar has significantly expanded its diplomatic footprint, presenting itself as a key intermediary in some of the most sensitive global arenas. According to a senior Israeli security official, Doha strategically cultivated parallel lines of communication and influence connecting Iran, the United States and leading European powers.
The source said Qatar leveraged its vast financial resources, energy exports and political flexibility to entrench itself as an indispensable actor. By maintaining open channels with Tehran while simultaneously hosting major US military assets and deepening economic and energy ties with Europe, Doha allegedly built a structure of mutual dependency.
This positioning allowed Qatar to serve as a backchannel in times of crisis and negotiation, especially on issues related to regional security, sanctions, hostage diplomacy and de-escalation efforts. European states, heavily reliant on Gulf energy supplies in recent years, also strengthened cooperation with Doha — further reinforcing its geopolitical weight.
