Tensions are again rising in northeastern Syria along the front between the Kurdish-led SDF militia and regime forces loyal to Damascus, around the Kobani (Ayn al-Arab) area.
Reports early this morning said fighting had resumed, with both sides issuing official statements accusing the other of violating the ceasefire.
According to a statement on the official Telegram channel of the SDF Media Center, forces affiliated with Damascus launched intensive attacks starting at 2:00 a.m. from several axes toward the towns of Kharab Ashk and al-Jalabiya, southeast of Kobani. The SDF said the assaults were accompanied by heavy artillery fire that also hit residential neighborhoods and the surroundings of the towns, triggering clashes on the ground. SDF forces claim they are repelling the attacks and that fighting is ongoing, mainly in the al-Jalabiya area. They also reported that the attacking forces sent reinforcements, including tanks and armored vehicles, and that there has been increased drone activity over the battlefield.
The SDF said its actions fall under the right to self-defense and placed responsibility on Damascus for the humanitarian and security consequences of the escalation. It also called on Arab parties to the ceasefire agreement to act urgently to halt the fighting.
