Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has raised Germany’s national threat assessment from an “abstract” danger to a “high” threat level, saying authorities are receiving increasing intelligence about identifiable attack plans.

German security forces have been placed on heightened alert, with particular attention being given to critical infrastructure, government institutions, public figures and large gatherings. Dobrindt warned that Germany must now be prepared for the possibility of attacks at any time.

The government has not publicly identified a specific imminent target. The warning comes amid mounting concerns over terrorism, foreign intelligence activity, sabotage and extremist violence across Germany.
