A powerful explosive device detonated beneath a public bus in southwestern Colombia, killing at least 14 people, including five children, and wounding at least 38 others.
The attack took place along the Pan-American Highway in the El Túnel sector of Cajibío, where the blast left a deep crater and completely destroyed the vehicle.
According to Colombian authorities, the bomb was planted inside a drainage pipe under the road and detonated exactly as the bus passed overhead. The attack has been attributed to dissident terrorist factions of the former FARC, specifically the “Jaime Martínez” group led by Iván Mordisco. President Gustavo Petro condemned the perpetrators as “terrorists and fascists” and ordered immediate reinforcement of security forces in the area.
NEWSRAEL: WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
This brutal attack underscores the persistent threat posed by FARC dissident groups, even years after the original peace agreements. The targeting of civilians, including children, highlights the terrorist tactics still employed by these factions. It also signals ongoing instability in key regions of Colombia and the challenge authorities face in preventing further mass-casualty attacks.
