Tensions in Syria are escalating rapidly, as expected, and the situation is approaching another explosion that could lead to mass violence against minorities.
Supporters of Abu Mohammad al-Julani’s Sunni jihadist regime in the northwest are holding rallies in support of his rule, openly calling for — and inciting — massacres of Alawites. Crowds are gathering in public squares, searching for Alawites to attack. Many are calling to launch jihad against “infidel minorities” to “teach them a lesson.”
Chants heard at the demonstrations include: “The people want to declare jihad!” — directed toward the Alawite minority and others.
Julani supporters claim that all of this unrest is a “Zionist and Iranian campaign” designed to destabilize Syria and topple the jihadist-controlled areas through a renewed civil war.
