BBC correspondent Napisa Conward reported that Russia was responsible for bombing the al-Tanf military base in southeastern Syria, and that Washington was aware of the attack before it took place.

The reporter noted, in a tweet she posted on her Twitter account, that the Russian military had warned the "US-led coalition against airstrikes on the site against a US-backed Javier al-Thaura militia (from al-Tanaf base)."

She added, quoting a military source (without mentioning the name), that the attack was "in response to a bomb blast by Javir al-Thura fighters (based in al-Tanf) that resulted in injuries and deaths in the Russian army."
