The US Geological Survey has identified over 2.5 million tons of lithium in the Appalachian Mountains region.
The institute stated that this amount is enough to replace more than 300 years of imports from abroad. The discovery is being announced at a time when the United States is actively working to reduce its dependence on communist China for essential minerals.
According to an update from the US Geological Survey, most of the lithium found is concentrated in North and South Carolina, with additional deposits in the states of Maine and New Hampshire.
According to the data, the discovered quantity is sufficient to produce 130 million electric vehicles, 180 billion laptops, and 500 billion mobile phones.
