Morocco is in one of its worst periods of drought, certainly in the last three decades. Therefore, the authorities announced a series of measures to reduce water consumption, among other things, for actions such as washing cars, watering green areas and filling public pools.
The Kingdom's Ministry of Water has declared a state of emergency and is looking for ways to save water. Among other things, it is proposed to start using only treated water for irrigation and at the same time to launch a campaign to increase awareness among Moroccans about the serious state of the water sector.
The water crisis has a significant impact on the Moroccan economy and the World Bank predicts that this year the kingdom's economy will grow by only 1.3% compared to close to 8% last year.
