The annual report of the Security Service of the Norwegian Police (PST), which corresponds to the Shin Bet, warns that the war in Gaza and the burning of the Koran books increases the risk of revenge attacks in Western countries, including Norway, by Islamic extremists, mainly by ISIS and Al-Qaeda supporters.

The report states that "Islamic extremists interpret Israel's fighting against Hamas as part of the West's military warfare against Muslims and the occupation of Muslim land." "Although the authorities in Norway have declared their support for a ceasefire in Gaza, most extremists will define Norway as part of Western military warfare and therefore as a possible legitimate target."

In addition, the report warns that "the threat against Israeli and Jewish targets will increase as a result of the war" and that "a prolonged and violent conflict between Israel and Hamas will mean that hatred of Israelis and Jews will become a more important element in the motivation of Islamic extremists when they want to carry out attacks in the West."
