Syria: The regime fails to contain the unrest between the Sunni majority and the minorities, and this time Sunnis massacre Alawites and Shiites in Homs. In the meantime, the Alawites of all people, ask Israel for protection!
Syria’s long-suppressed Sunni anger over decades of oppression and killing is erupting again, and no one seems able to stop it. Minority communities across the country continue to face brutal revenge attacks wherever mixed neighborhoods exist.
After previous bloodshed in the Alawite coastal region and then in the Druze south, the violence has now reached central Syria.
Bedouin clans from Homs launched a revenge campaign against Alawite and Shiite neighborhoods after a Sunni couple from their clan was murdered — something Sunnis say was an act of retaliation carried out by Assad-loyalist Alawites. The Bedouin tribes responded with widespread arson against Alawite homes and former regime officers, burned vehicles, killings, and the forced expulsion of Alawites from their homes.
