The Turkish leadership is well aware that establishing military bases in Syria goes against the interests of both the U.S. and Russia, which are actively working—through diplomacy and on the ground—to thwart such moves.
Knowing this, Turkey has opted for a gradual, “crawling” approach into Syrian territory under the familiar pretext that the new regime has invited them.
It is clear to all that this is merely the first step, paving the way for a broader military presence in Syria and an eventual transformation of the country into a Turkish protectorate.
Israel has already expressed its opposition to this step.
Turkey is exploring the possibility of establishing a training base in Syria aimed at supporting the Syrian army in its fight against terrorism and promoting stability in the country.
Sources in the Turkish Defense Ministry reported that the request for the establishment of the training base came from the new Syrian government.
According to sources, an agreement was reached during a ministerial meeting hosted by Jordan on March 9, 2025, with the participation of Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, to establish a joint operations center in Syria to support the country in its fight against terrorism, mainly against ISIS.
The Turkish Defense Ministry emphasized that “preserving Syria’s territorial integrity, enabling the new government to extend its authority to the entire country, and achieving stability and security in Syria are Turkey’s top priorities.”
NEWSRAEL: It is clear to all the hypocricy behind the Turkish propaganda. Turkey has been carving out Syrian land for years now, when it had no such "agreement" with the (Assad) government. Erdogan is doing all he can to replicate the Iranian fiasco in Syria, thinking he will succeed.
