Australia: Arab man who tackled Sydney terrorist condemned online as “traitor” and "Infidel"; fireworks reportedly lit in celebration
Ahmad Al-Ahmad, a 43-year-old father of two, was identified as the man who jumped on and temporarily neutralized the attacker during the Sydney terror incident.
According to reports circulating in Arab-language channels, Al-Ahmad has since been subjected to a wave of online abuse for his actions. Commenters labeled him a “traitor,” “hypocrite,” and “infidel,” accusing him of siding with non-Muslims after he intervened to stop the terrorist and prevent further harm.
Separately, additional reports claim that groups of Sydney Arabs lit fireworks in parts of the city to celebrate the attack itself, sparking outrage and renewed scrutiny of radicalization, incitement, and community responses to terrorism in Australia.
