Emir Qatar landed today in Athens, and this should concern Israel because he did not come by chance.
The Qatari leader arrived in Greece with a basket full of promises of investments, energy, infrastructure, data centers, tourism, and also security in an attempt to gain an economic-strategic foothold in one of the most sensitive arenas for Israel, which includes Greece, Cyprus, and the entire Eastern Mediterranean.
Greece is a gateway to Europe, an LNG hub, ports, and communication cables, and also part of the axis that Israel built against Turkey. Now Qatar, a close ally of Erdogan and a center of activity for the Muslim Brotherhood, is trying to deepen its presence precisely in this area.
Athens wants capital. Doha wants influence. Israel should not panic but rather monitor, understand Qatar's intentions, and respond accordingly.
