Elon Musk claims fraud in several Democratic-run states dwarfs Minnesota’s case and estimates that roughly 10% of the entire US federal budget is lost to fraud every year.
Elon Musk has ignited a fresh political and fiscal debate after posting a blunt assessment on X regarding government fraud in the United States.
“The fraud in California, New York and Illinois is far greater than in Minnesota,” Musk wrote, pushing back against narratives that focus narrowly on individual state-level cases.
He then expanded the claim nationwide, adding: “My guess for how much fraud is happening nationwide is roughly 10% of the Federal budget, so about $700 billion per year.”
