THE SYRIAN REPORT --Since the Syrian conflict began in 2011, Iranian Revolutionary Guard-affiliated militias, including Hezbollah, have supported the regime in Homs. Initially accepted by the local Alawite community, the sentiment has shifted due to increased Israeli strikes against Hezbollah leaders. A recent airstrike in February 2024 killed eight, raising fears among residents.
Marwa, a local resident, recently requested Hezbollah tenants to vacate her uncle's property due to concerns over potential attacks, prompting others to follow suit. Public attitudes have changed, especially after recent conflicts involving Hezbollah.
As Lebanese refugees arrive in Homs due to the Israel-Lebanon conflict, many locals hesitate to rent to families with adult males, fearing Hezbollah affiliations. Rent prices have surged, with unfurnished apartments now costing around USD 200, up from USD 42.
