Gulf commentators believe that US President Donald Trump's plan to take control of the Gaza Strip and bring about the migration of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan will delay attempts to reach a normalization agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel, and will even increase anti-American sentiment in the Saudi kingdom.
YONI BEN-MENACHEM -- Trump's plan has sparked outrage among the Palestinians and widespread shock and disagreement in the Arab world. The question is, will it close the door to possible Saudi recognition of Israel?
Saudi Arabia is the leader of the Sunni axis. Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood are considered terrorist organizations in Saudi Arabia, but Gulf commentators say that Saudi Arabia cannot refrain from remaining silent in the face of Trump's plan, and be portrayed in the Arab world as a traitor to the Palestinian problem and as a collaborator with the US and Israel against the Palestinians.
Saudi Arabia needs friendly relations with Washington and its help against Iran. For the normalization agreement with Israel, it is supposed to receive a nuclear reactor for enriching uranium, advanced weapons and a defense alliance agreement with the United States.
