Iran’s revolutionary court sentenced attorney and human rights activist Javad Alikhordi after he demanded transparency over his brother’s mysterious death.
Iran’s revolutionary court in Mashhad has sentenced Iranian lawyer and human rights activist Javad Alikordi to 18 years in prison, alongside a permanent ban on practicing law, a travel ban and internal exile.
Alikhordi is the brother of attorney Khosrow Alikhordi, who represented many Iranian dissidents over the years and died last December under mysterious circumstances in his office. After his brother’s death, Javad demanded that the authorities release the full security camera footage from the office, without edits or deletions. That demand was ignored.
According to the verdict, Alikhordi was sentenced to five years in prison for “assembly and collusion to act against national security,” and another 13 years for “propaganda activity against national security” under an article connected to espionage offenses.
