There are still those—both abroad and even within Israel—who cling to the illusion that there are “good Palestinians” and “bad Palestinians.” In this view, the Palestinian Authority under Fatah represents the “responsible moderates,” while Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and others are the “extremists.”
From this mistaken premise comes the argument: Israel should hand Gaza over to Fatah and let them govern. It sounds neat, but it is dangerously false.
The harsh reality is this: there is no fundamental difference between Fatah and Hamas. Their only distinction lies in methods, not goals. Hamas fires rockets and celebrates mass murder openly. Fatah prefers the "Arafat" tactic in which he built a long list of terror groups that he could say: "That isn't me!".
But the destination is the same—the destruction of Israel and the elimination of the Jewish people from their ancestral land.
