Senior UAE adviser Anwar Gargash issued a sharp warning against trusting Iran, saying no unilateral arrangements with Tehran can be relied upon following what he described as its “treacherous aggression” against neighboring states.
His remarks come amid continued tensions over security in the Strait of Hormuz and the broader fallout from recent regional conflict.
Gargash emphasized that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz must be guaranteed by international law and collective global will, underscoring the waterway’s critical role in global energy markets. His comments reflect growing Emirati frustration after sustaining waves of missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran, which have significantly reshaped Abu Dhabi’s strategic outlook.
The UAE’s position toward Iran has hardened further as it deepens ties with Israel. Reports indicate that during a recent conflict, Israel deployed advanced defense systems—including the Iron Dome—on Emirati soil for the first time, along with additional technologies and personnel to help defend against aerial threats. This cooperation marks a significant escalation in security coordination between the two countries.
