The alliance between Japan and the US is growing stronger amid heightened tensions between China and Japan. President Donald Trump spoke yesterday with Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping and later phoned Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
Takaichi told reporters that Trump briefed her on his call with the CCP leader and emphasized that they remain close friends — adding that she can call him “whenever she wants.” She also noted that following Trump’s recent visit to Japan, cooperation between Tokyo and Washington has become even more solid.
The two leaders also discussed ways to further deepen the alliance in the Indo-Pacific, focusing on shared strategic interests and efforts to counter regional threats.
Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Ministry described the Trump–Xi call as “positive, friendly and efficient,” highlighting Beijing’s attention to the rapid diplomatic developments.
