The Iraqi government spokesman issued an unusual ultimatum to armed militias: anyone who does not hand over weapons to the state by the end of September will be dealt with under the law.
A highly significant statement is coming out of Baghdad: Iraq’s government spokesman declared that militias and armed groups that fail to transfer their weapons to the state by the end of September will face legal action.
The message appears aimed directly at armed forces operating outside state control, above all the pro-Iranian militias that have served for years as one of the IRGC’s most important tools inside Iraq.
If the move in Iraq succeeds alongside the efforts in Lebanon against Hezbollah, the Iranian axis could face a serious strategic setback: the loss of two major power bases in West Asia.
